Money for iPad: submitted to the App Store

This weekend iBear team members have submitted Money app for iPad to the App Store, and I intend to provide some preliminary screenshots with this post.

We’ve worked a lot to improve the Money app and create an application that will not simply copy all the features of Money, but would be something new, and would provide new experience, specific to iPad. I believe that we’ve achieved this, and now Apple is reviewing one of the best financial applications for iPad. Money for iPad can be compared to a leather organizer where you keep all your information related to personal finances.

Money for iPad has a similar structure to the Money for iPhone, but is different in the way how you see information and what you can do from each screen. The app is split into 5 tabs, just as Money for iPhone, but the way you work with the tabs and their content will be different.

Transactions Tab

Transactions screen has evolved into a Bill Minder with a big calendar, from which one can see all the planned, overdue and paid transactions. We’ve tried to present every feature in a way most resembling to physical objects to make it easier to work with all the items. The list of transactions on the right is designed as a list of important cards that you may keep in your organizer. They scroll down giving you an illusion that you move them in leather pockets. Of course, the big calendar makes it easier to navigate and visualize your every transaction.

Balance Tab

Balance tab is made similar to a standard Transaction Register, which many people used to have (and still do) to write down their transactions. From this tab you can see all your accounts on the left, again in the form of important cards, and on the right you can see all the related transactions.

Budget Tab

Budget tab shows improved reports that are specific to the budget categories, and reports tab shows you a general picture. Finally, Tools are meant to give you extra features.

Tools Tab

Money for iPad is a separate application, but it reads backups made in Money for iPhone. We are going to add the syncing feature later in the next version. As for this version, as outlined in the previous post, people said that

1. It is a good idea to have Money on an iPad because it is easy to add all the transaction to Money at the end of the day (1 person)
2. It is easier to see reports on an iPad (3 people)
3. It would be good to sync with iPhone data (2 people)
4. It is easier to enter data and easier to work with a bigger screen (4 people)
5. Just useful (4 people)

and I do believe that it will be easy to add transactions in this version for iPad. The reports will give a lot more information. Data syncing is currently possible only via backups, but we are planning to make it easier later. And yes, your user experience with Money for iPad must be excellent. (Comment in brackets in response to one common question: it does have OFX import so you can import your bank records if your bank supports OFX (most of them do)).

Be the first to buy the application. It is not yet on the App Store, so I cannot give any link, but you are welcome to be ready. If you want to discuss this post, please do so in this forum thread.
