   Hello,

   Just wondering how people deal with Stock investment.
   If I use transaction to buy and sell stock, profit are not recorded with Links.
   If I buy it as an asset, it does but on the budget I got a hughe expense which is not what I want and it leaves me with an unbalanced budget.

   Any one do differently than me? It could be good to be able to have different class for budget to avoid recording what we don't want to appear in budget.

   Also I have discovered the BALANCE TRANSACTION but this is not appearing in the budget. Even if we did forget to record some transaction, I believe the Balance Transaction should appear on the budget at least in a MISC or Reconciliation column as this is money we have used, is it ?

   Hello, when adding a new transaction, which type is Asset Purchase, you may skip its category, and then it will not show up in the Budget. As to the Balance Transaction, I'd think that you mean Balance adjustment - if so, it is meant for different purpose, please read about this feature here.

   Thank you and sorry for the late reply.
   Okay for the balance transaction, but it's useless then because no point entering money used which not appear on the budget.

   For the Asset purchase, I can't remove the category, perhaps because I have designed a default category?

   Actually it is more correct to show Balance Adjustment than not to show it because it only appears when you add money to one of your accounts without creating a real transaction. It's a sort of a "starting balance", which does not need to show in the Budget.

   Regarding the asset purchase: you need to enter the category setting and delete its link to the account. It will not automatically fill in then.

   Hello,
   I have tried and it is not possible to enter a Discharge in Liabilities without a category.
   As it’s ruining my budget if I do so, I will continue to use a Money transfer.
   I have decided to only record the Mark-to-Market value from time to time by doing a Balance Adjustment.
   It’s true, there is no good way to follow equities on Money.

   I just read your post in another thread.. and tried registering Discharge of Liability without giving it a category, and it worked. Are you using the latest version of Money?
