Sorry that you have this issue, I understand this is frustrating and it would make me feel upset too. For one thing: it seems to happen only with your profile so I don't really have any data from previous inquiries that can clear up the situation. So please, give me a step-by-step careful description of what you had been doing before this issue happened? And did you manage to save your backup file? I'd also assume that at some point our support may want to contact you directly to find out your phone details, but for now please describe your activity in details before that happened.

I hadn't been doing anything on it. I turned on my phone and followed the instructions to back-up and exactly the same thing happened as before (see message above, my 3rd post). The difference this time is the entries are still all on the app.

Yes, as I said above it says 'save target as' and you indicated that was the same thing. It will not download to computer. The first time the entries were all gone but this time they are not.
I don't know if this helps but an additional puzzlement today. I went to Balance, then Liabilities. I have entries in the first two catagories there. I went to add one to the Other Liabilities section , I tap edit and when I tap add in that section it kicks me right out of the program and goes back to the iphone home screen.
Any ideas?Posted 2 years ago # -
When I choose save target as a window opens with a file option. I click the 'save' button and it downloads, then there is an 'open file' option when I open the file I get the error message I described in my 3rd post, above.

Hello, you don't need to open that file on your computer, it is a backup of your entries from the Money app. You will just want to save it someplace safe, and if you loose all the entries on your phone again, you can copy it back to recover them.
Its not meant to be opened on your Desktop computer, just saved there. When it asks you if you would like to open it, you can just say no.
Hope that helps you out.

Maybe I have misunderstood the premise of the backup. I would like to be able to open that file on my computer, is that not possible? I am concerned that there isn't anything in the file that is saved on my computer and without being able to open it there really is no way to tell.
Also, how would I copy it back if I do need to do that? Thanks for the help

I did a backup this morning in order to answer the question about what happens when I choose the 'save object as' post accurately and now all the entries since the previous backup have disappeared off my app.

I feel that you are working with backups in a non-standard way. Here are standard general principles:
1. As trevort said, you don't need to open your backup on your computer. Backup is a "service" file, which will help you to recover your data on your iPhone IF something is wrong with it (for example, you lost it or you accidentally deleted the application from the iPhone)
2. Backup makes a "photograph" of your transactions at the time when you make it. Thus, if you make a backup on 15th of March, and then you add new transactions by March 20, and then you recover your data from the backup, it will delete your transactions from the period between March 15 and March 20, and you will again see only those transactions up to March 15. It is because you "photographed" your situation on March 15, and then told your iPhone to apply that situation as current.
3. Since a backup is a technical file, it is OK that you cannot open it on your computer. There are many files in the system, which we cannot open, and cannot even see. Backups are intended specifically to work with iPhones, not with computers. Computers are used only to keep those files safe, as it is less likely that something can happen with the computer rather than with the iPhone.
I think what you did in your last situation was different from saving the backup to your computer. Instead, you most likely uploaded the backup from your computer to your iPhone. By doing this, you "told" the system to apply the "photograph" of your previous state to your records. And it wiped off the entries that you have added since the backup was made.
Hope that makes things clearer. Let me know what you think.
