How can I tell how much money I've left to spend if the planned transactions doesn't add up anywhere - if I don't register them, of course.

I've just answered your question in another topic. Please view planned transactions not as a Budgeting tool, but as alerts that remind you of when you want to make an actual transaction. If you want to see how much money you are going to have in the end of the month for example, you need to use Budget, and define how much money is going to be spent for each category.
